The 2024 PGA Tour season came to an end with Scottie Scheffler winning the Tour Championship. Winning the FedEx Cup playoffs in dominant fashion, Scheffler took home $25 million in prize money.
However, viewership for the Tour Championship and Scheffler’s victory saw a downward trend compared to the previous year. This has been a consistent pattern throughout the 2024 PGA Tour season, with several tournaments underperforming when compared to the last few years.
This year, the Tour Championship reportedly garnered 2,700,000 viewers, a 13% decline from the previous year. Viktor Hovland’s victory in 2023 caught the eye of 3,100,000 million viewers per Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“NBC draws 2.7M viewers for Scottie Scheffler’s four-shot win in the Tour Championship on Sunday (no streaming included). That’s down 13% from last year: 3.1M on CBS when Viktor Hovland won by five (not on Labor Day weekend).”
