Jennifer Lopez is being honest about her split from Ben Affleck. She says they had “irreconcilable differences,” which means they couldn’t work out their problems.
J.Lo, 55, filed for divorce from Ben, 52, on August 20. That date was special because it was exactly two years since their wedding in Georgia.
According to the Daily Mail, Jennifer chose that date on purpose.
An insider said she was tired of being embarrassed by Ben and wanted the divorce to hurt him by filing on their anniversary.
An insider said the divorce didn’t really bother Ben Affleck. According to them, Ben had moved on long ago, and deep down, Jennifer knew that. He let her go through with the divorce on their anniversary so she wouldn’t seem like the bad guy.
Another source told *Us Weekly* that the timing of the divorce was meant to be a big insult to Ben.
Jennifer Lopez said they actually separated on April 26, 2024. She gave up any claims to spousal support and asked the judge to deny support to Ben as well. She also wants to drop “Affleck” from her last name.
According to TMZ, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck didn’t have a prenup when they split.
On the day they separated, J.Lo was in New York, getting ready to co-host the Met Gala. Rumors about their breakup started when she showed up at the event alone, without Ben, on May 6.
After the split, Ben moved out of their $60 million mansion and into a rental home. Later, he bought a new house for $20.5 million and put the house they owned together up for sale.
J.Lo and Ben first started dating in 2002 but called off their engagement in 2004. Twenty years later, they got back together and married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas in July 2022. A month later, they had a bigger wedding at Ben’s home in Riceboro, Georgia, on August 20, 2022.
Jennifer Lopez told *People* magazine that she and Ben Affleck are older and wiser now. They have more life experience, they’re in different stages of life, and they both have kids, so they have to be mindful of those things.
She said it’s beautiful that they got back together at this point in their lives when they can truly appreciate and celebrate each other. They’ve always respected each other, but now they value it even more because they know life can take unexpected turns.
